School Holiday Junior Courses Blades One The Blades One course is the first step in learning how to Row and Scull. On the course you will learn how to use an indoor rowing machine effectively, learn how to get afloat safely and learn the basic techniques of sculling individually and within a crew. The course will also help you to get to know basic terminology about your boat and oars. We aim to keep the course as practical and active as possible. Physical exercises are kept gentle on the body as individuals learn the technique; frequent breaks are incorporated into sessions, making the course suitable for all. Instructor feedback is continuous due to a maximum ratio of one instructor to four participants, enabling everyone to progress techniques quickly. All participants start off at the same level, and there is no pressure to learn quickly. Everyone will make mistakes but the most important thing is to have fun, meet new people and learn something new and if you have any worries the recreational rowers will usually be on hand to tell you first hand what to expect! Blades 2 This is a progression on from Blades 1, with the aim to further boat skills into a fine sculling boat. The simple truth of rowing is that once you can row in a fine single, you can row in anything!
